You have probably come across tons of trends on social media, and one such buzzword is THE VISION BOARD. The concept is self-explanatory, and as the name hints at, a vision board is a collection of your vision on a rectangular board.
A typical vision board would look something like this:

But, now, the question is why to make one in the first place?
5 good answers:
Helps you ascertain your goals:
Yes, it may sound easy, but we assure you it’s not. When one sits down to meditate on their goals, they find out most of their goals aren’t even theirs. Many of them have been imposed onto them and they don’t inspire happiness. Not just that, a short-term goal often takes a backseat as we think of the long-term goals. A vision board has a time frame of the next 1 year, making sure that immediate goals actualize.
Helps you learn more about yourself:
When one reflects on their truest, inner-most wants, they uncover the person they have been suppressing. This can be a good introspection practice also.
Helps you visualize them:
The book “The Secret” mentions how one can achieve their goal by visualizing. This one is a no-brainer, a vision board offers a person a clear visualizing aid.
Helps you achieve them:
Think of it like a to-do list, only better because we can see the plans we have for the immediate future. This isn’t as microscopic as our daily plans, and so, it also helps people suffering from anxiety to believe they can still accomplish what they have set out to do.
Making one is easy!
How do you make a vision board?
The first step would be to ascertain your goals. Now, this may sound easy but as you sit down to reflect upon yourself, you would find out your goals are inter-connected or perhaps not even your goals. A long session of meditation could help you gain clarity on what is it that you truly desire.
Note your goals down.
If you do not have any goals for the immediate future, you could also lock in your long-term goals. However, the idea here is to be fully authentic with oneself and to only keep the goals you truly want.
For those who have no personal or professional goals, a list of hobbies or skills they would like to learn can become a part of their vision board.
Once you have your goals and interests ascertained, you can move to step 2.
Collect Relevant Material
For instance, if your goal for the future is to get promoted as the VP of your firm, then, you should collect images of people leading a presentation, or bosses in their own luxurious cabins, or the very word “VP”. You would find these images on the internet easily.
If you find the material (pics) is already with you, then all you have to do is put your pics into that collection.
Once the pics are sorted out, now is the time for messages and affirmations. You could find inspiring quotes on the internet. For someone who is looking to get their body back in shape within the next year, quotes like “a little effort every day can make the difference” or “do not give up” can be quite the positive reassurance.
You may also use screenshots or paper chits with personal quotes to reinforce the concept.
DECIDE THE MEDIUM
A vision board is ideally physical, meaning you take out a long piece of cardboard and glue your image son to it. You then hang that board somewhere you could see it daily, and as your brain makes unconscious notes of these messagings, your brain conspires to push you towards making your vision board your actual present.
However, we understand that not everyone may be comfortable with the idea of a physical vision board lying around the house for everyone to see. In that case, you could go for a digital vision board. The best part is you can find online templates for one as well.
Once the vision board is made, the only thing left to do is keep it somewhere you can’t miss it.
Visualization is key to succeeding in your life goals.
